Message summary & scripture references

Research shows that two to three million churchgoers leave their church every year. Most leave because of burn out or because they were hurt in someway by their church. With these statistics in mind, in today’s message, I am addressing the reality that so many Christians are contemplating leaving a church.

Acts 13:1-3 KJV

[1] Now there were in the church that was at Antioch certain prophets and teachers; as Barnabas, and Simeon that was called Niger, and Lucius of Cyrene, and Manaen, which had been brought up with Herod the tetrarch, and Saul.
[2] As they ministered to the Lord, and fasted, the Holy Ghost said, Separate me Barnabas and Saul for the work whereunto I have called them.
[3] And when they had fasted and prayed, and laid their hands on them, they sent them away.

Acts 15:35-41 KJV

[35] Paul also and Barnabas continued in Antioch, teaching and preaching the word of the Lord, with many others also.
[36] And some days after Paul said unto Barnabas, Let us go again and visit our brethren in every city where we have preached the word of the Lord, and see how they do.
[37] And Barnabas determined to take with them John, whose surname was Mark.
[38] But Paul thought not good to take him with them, who departed from them from Pamphylia, and went not with them to the work.
[39] And the contention was so sharp between them, that they departed asunder one from the other: and so Barnabas took Mark, and sailed unto Cyprus;
[40] And Paul chose Silas, and departed, being recommended by the brethren unto the grace of God.
[41] And he went through Syria and Cilicia, confirming the churches.

1 Corinthians 14:33 KJV

[33] For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints.

Matthew 13:57-58 KJV

[57] And they were offended in him. But Jesus said unto them, A prophet is not without honour, save in his own country, and in his own house.
[58] And he did not many mighty works there because of their unbelief.

Acts 6:1-2,6-7 KJV

[1] And in those days, when the number of the disciples was multiplied, there arose a murmuring of the Grecians against the Hebrews, because their widows were neglected in the daily ministration.
[2] Then the twelve called the multitude of the disciples unto them , and said, It is not reason that we should leave the word of God, and serve tables.
[6] Whom they set before the apostles: and when they had prayed, they laid their hands on them.
[7] And the word of God increased; and the number of the disciples multiplied in Jerusalem greatly; and a great company of the priests were obedient to the faith.

[24] So do Mark, Aristarchus, Demas, and Luke, my co-workers.

2 Timothy 4:9-11 NLT

[9] Timothy, please come as soon as you can.
[10] Demas has deserted me because he loves the things of this life and has gone to Thessalonica. Crescens has gone to Galatia, and Titus has gone to Dalmatia.
[11] Only Luke is with me. Bring Mark with you when you come, for he will be helpful to me in my ministry.

Acts 5:34,38-39 NLT

[34] But one member, a Pharisee named Gamaliel, who was an expert in religious law and respected by all the people, stood up and ordered that the men be sent outside the council chamber for a while.
[38] “So my advice is, leave these men alone. Let them go. If they are planning and doing these things merely on their own, it will soon be overthrown.
[39] But if it is from God, you will not be able to overthrow them. You may even find yourselves fighting against God!”

1 Samuel 24:4-7 NLT

[4] “Now’s your opportunity!” David’s men whispered to him. “Today the LORD is telling you, ‘I will certainly put your enemy into your power, to do with as you wish.'” So David crept forward and cut off a piece of the hem of Saul’s robe.
[5] But then David’s conscience began bothering him because he had cut Saul’s robe.
[6] He said to his men, “The LORD forbid that I should do this to my lord the king. I shouldn’t attack the LORD’s anointed one, for the LORD himself has chosen him.”
[7] So David restrained his men and did not let them kill Saul. After Saul had left the cave and gone on his way,

Psalm 105:15 KJV
