Message summary & scripture references

I have been a member of a local church for 20 plus years. This has afforded me the opportunity to see the good, the bad, and the ugly of church life. I believe God desires for Christians to gather together on a regular basis, but when people come together over long periods of time conflict arises. In today’s message, I am addressing three major reasons why being a church member is difficult with solutions of how to overcome them so you can thrive in your church.

Acts 6:1-7 KJV

[1] And in those days, when the number of the disciples was multiplied, there arose a murmuring of the Grecians against the Hebrews, because their widows were neglected in the daily ministration.
[2] Then the twelve called the multitude of the disciples unto them, and said, It is not reason that we should leave the word of God, and serve tables.
[3] Wherefore, brethren, look ye out among you seven men of honest report, full of the Holy Ghost and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business.
[4] But we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word.
[5] And the saying pleased the whole multitude: and they chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Ghost, and Philip, and Prochorus, and Nicanor, and Timon, and Parmenas, and Nicolas a proselyte of Antioch:
[6] Whom they set before the apostles: and when they had prayed, they laid their hands on them.
[7] And the word of God increased; and the number of the disciples multiplied in Jerusalem greatly; and a great company of the priests were obedient to the faith.

Amos 3:3 KJV

[3] Can two walk together, except they be agreed?

Hebrews 13:17 KJV

[17] Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves: for they watch for your souls, as they that must give account, that they may do it with joy, and not with grief: for that is unprofitable for you.

Ephesians 5:21 KJV

[21] Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God.

1 Chronicles 21: 1-4,7-8,14 KJV

[1] And Satan stood up against Israel, and provoked David to number Israel.
[2] And David said to Joab and to the rulers of the people, Go, number Israel from Beersheba even to Dan; and bring the number of them to me, that I may know it.
[3] And Joab answered, The LORD make his people an hundred times so many more as they be: but, my lord the king, are they not all my lord’s servants? why then doth my lord require this thing? why will he be a cause of trespass to Israel?
[4] Nevertheless the king’s word prevailed against Joab. Wherefore Joab departed, and went throughout all Israel, and came to Jerusalem.
[7] And God was displeased with this thing; therefore he smote Israel.
[8] And David said unto God, I have sinned greatly, because I have done this thing: but now, I beseech thee, do away the iniquity of thy servant; for I have done very foolishly.
[14] So the LORD sent pestilence upon Israel: and there fell of Israel seventy thousand men.
