Message summary & scripture references

Praying to God has many purposes. One purpose that is often underutilized, however, is receiving instructions. In Jesus’ life, when He prayed, He was not really requesting healing for people or asking for financial miracles; He was seeking and receiving instructions. Listen to today’s Daily Word and learn more about this important application of prayer, so you can receive the instructions you need for your calling.

Here are a few steps to guide your prayer time.

  1. Read a few verses of scripture out loud.
  2. Reread what you wrote down previously.
  3. Feel inside if anything needs to be crossed out.
  4. Ask God clarifying questions about previous instructions.
  5. Ask God new questions about anything you need answers to.
  6. Write down anything you think you hear inside of your spirit.
  7. Repeat as long as you want.

These steps are not doctrine, but they can be used to start you hearing God and receiving your own personal instructions for your calling.

Mark 6:35-37 KJV

[35] And when the day was now far spent, his disciples came unto him, and said, This is a desert place, and now the time is far passed:
[36] Send them away, that they may go into the country round about, and into the villages, and buy themselves bread: for they have nothing to eat.
[37] He answered and said unto them, Give ye them to eat. And they say unto him, Shall we go and buy two hundred pennyworth of bread, and give them to eat?

John 6:5-6 KJV

[5]When Jesus then lifted up his eyes, and saw a great company come unto him, he saith unto Philip, Whence shall we buy bread, that these may eat?
[6] And this he said to prove him: for he himself knew what he would do.

Mark 1:34-38 KJV

[34] And he healed many that were sick of divers diseases, and cast out many devils; and suffered not the devils to speak, because they knew him.
[35] And in the morning, rising up a great while before day, he went out, and departed into a solitary place, and there prayed.
[36] And Simon and they that were with him followed after him.
[37] And when they had found him, they said unto him, All men seek for thee.
[38] And he said unto them, Let us go into the next towns, that I may preach there also: for therefore came I forth.

Luke 22:41-43 KJV

[41] And he was withdrawn from them about a stone’s cast, and kneeled down, and prayed,
[42] Saying, Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done.
[43] And there appeared an angel unto him from heaven, strengthening him.

John 5:30 KJV

[30] I can of mine own self do nothing: as I hear, I judge: and my judgment is just; because I seek not mine own will, but the will of the Father which hath sent me.

Luke 18:1 AMP

[1] Now Jesus was telling the disciples a parable to make the point that at all times they ought to pray and not give up and lose heart,
