Message summary & scripture references

Have you ever read a Bible verse and not quite know what it meant? Well, that happens to me a lot. In today’s Daily Word, I am going to explore the meaning behind one such Bible verse: “Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting.” As we explore this verse, we’ll discover that properly combining prayer and fasting produces the faith you need to achieve great results.

Mark 9:28-29 KJV

[28] And when he was come into the house, his disciples asked him privately, Why could not we cast him out?
[29] And he said unto them, This kind can come forth by nothing, but by prayer and fasting.

[14] Then came to him the disciples of John, saying, Why do we and the Pharisees fast oft, but thy disciples fast not?
[15] And Jesus said unto them, Can the children of the bridechamber mourn, as long as the bridegroom is with them? but the days will come, when the bridegroom shall be taken from them, and then shall they fast.

Matthew 17:19-21 KJV

[19] Then came the disciples to Jesus apart, and said, Why could not we cast him out?
[20] And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.
[21] Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting.

Romans 10:17 KJV

[17] So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

Luke 6:11-13 KJV

[12] And it came to pass in those days, that he went out into a mountain to pray, and continued all night in prayer to God.
[13] And when it was day, he called unto him his disciples: and of them he chose twelve, whom also he named apostles;

Acts 13:2-4 KJV

[2] As they ministered to the Lord, and fasted, the Holy Ghost said, Separate me Barnabas and Saul for the work whereunto I have called them.
[3] And when they had fasted and prayed, and laid their hands on them, they sent them away.
[4] So they, being sent forth by the Holy Ghost, departed unto Seleucia; and from thence they sailed to Cyprus.

James 1:2,5 KJV

[2] My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations;
[5] If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.

2 Chronicles 20:3-4,14 KJV

[3] And Jehoshaphat feared, and set himself to seek the Lord , and proclaimed a fast throughout all Judah.
[4] And Judah gathered themselves together, to ask help of the Lord: even out of all the cities of Judah they came to seek the Lord.
[14] Then upon Jahaziel the son of Zechariah, the son of Benaiah, the son of Jeiel, the son of Mattaniah, a Levite of the sons of Asaph, came the Spirit of the Lord in the midst of the congregation;

Luke 18:10-14 KJV

[10] Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican.
[11] The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are , extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican.
[12] I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess.
[13] And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner.
[14] I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.
