Message summary & scripture references

Many of us have spent many years identifying ourselves as this profession or that profession. Maybe you have been a social worker for the past fifteen years, a brain surgeon for thirty years, or a high school teacher for five years. In any case, now God is calling you to step into something new that requires you to unlock your identity from what you were in the past.

It can be scary because this is who you have been for so long, and you have found a sense of comfort in identifying as a social worker, brain surgeon, or high school teacher, etc. However, to move into your future, you have to unlock your identity from the past.

Philippians 3:4-7 KJV

[4] Though I might also have confidence in the flesh. If any other man thinketh that he hath whereof he might trust in the flesh, I more:
[5] Circumcised the eighth day, of the stock of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, an Hebrew of the Hebrews; as touching the law, a Pharisee;
[6] Concerning zeal, persecuting the church; touching the righteousness which is in the law, blameless.
[7] But what things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Christ.

Matthew 13:55 KJV

[55] Is not this the carpenter’s son? is not his mother called Mary? and his brethren, James, and Joses, and Simon, and Judas?
