Discussion summary & scripture references
We can achieve success one of two ways — rest or stress. The stress way of success is a repetitive rat race of hard work, just barely making it, and if you do, it costs your life. However, the rest way of success is trusting in God, following Holy Spirit’s directions, and not carrying the burden of making success happen through your own power. God allows us to choose which way to take, but most of us choose the way of stress because of an ingrained mindset that says success comes from hard work, hustle, and grinding. Listen to this replay from our live Faith-Discussion to learn more about this concept.
Genesis 3:17-19 KJV
[17] And unto Adam he said, Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it: cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life;
[18] Thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth to thee; and thou shalt eat the herb of the field;
[19] In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return.
Proverbs 10:22 AMPC
[22] The blessing of the Lord-it makes [truly] rich, and He adds no sorrow with it [neither does toiling increase it].
Matthew 11:28-30 MSG
[28-30] “Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me-watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.”
Matthew 17:24-27 KJV
[24] And when they were come to Capernaum, they that received tribute money came to Peter, and said, Doth not your master pay tribute?
[25] He saith, Yes. And when he was come into the house, Jesus prevented him, saying, What thinkest thou, Simon? of whom do the kings of the earth take custom or tribute? of their own children, or of strangers?
[26] Peter saith unto him, Of strangers. Jesus saith unto him, Then are the children free.
[27] Notwithstanding, lest we should offend them, go thou to the sea, and cast an hook, and take up the fish that first cometh up; and when thou hast opened his mouth, thou shalt find a piece of money: that take, and give unto them for me and thee.
Deuteronomy 30:19 KJV
[19] I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live:
Genesis 11:1-4 NIV
[1] Now the whole world had one language and a common speech.
[2] As people moved eastward,[a] they found a plain in Shinar[b] and settled there.
[3] They said to each other, “Come, let’s make bricks and bake them thoroughly.” They used brick instead of stone, and tar for mortar.
[4] Then they said, “Come, let us build ourselves a city, with a tower that reaches to the heavens, so that we may make a name for ourselves; otherwise we will be scattered over the face of the whole earth.”
1 Samuel 13:7-14 NLT
[7] Some of them crossed the Jordan River and escaped into the land of Gad and Gilead.Meanwhile, Saul stayed at Gilgal, and his men were trembling with fear.
[8] Saul waited there seven days for Samuel, as Samuel had instructed him earlier, but Samuel still didn’t come. Saul realized that his troops were rapidly slipping away.
[9] So he demanded, “Bring me the burnt offering and the peace offerings!” And Saul sacrificed the burnt offering himself.
[10] Just as Saul was finishing with the burnt offering, Samuel arrived. Saul went out to meet and welcome him,
[11] but Samuel said, “What is this you have done?” Saul replied, “I saw my men scattering from me, and you didn’t arrive when you said you would, and the Philistines are at Micmash ready for battle.
[12] So I said, ‘The Philistines are ready to march against us at Gilgal, and I haven’t even asked for the Lord’s help!’ So I felt compelled to offer the burnt offering myself before you came.”
[13] “How foolish!” Samuel exclaimed. “You have not kept the command the Lord your God gave you. Had you kept it, the Lord would have established your kingdom over Israel forever. 14 But now your kingdom must end, for the Lord has sought out a man after his own heart. The Lord has already appointed him to be the leader of his people, because you have not kept the Lord’s command.”
1 Peter 5:5-7 NLT
[5] In the same way, you who are younger must accept the authority of the elders. And all of you, dress yourselves in humility as you relate to one another, for “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.”[a]
[6] So humble yourselves under the mighty power of God, and at the right time he will lift you up in honor.
[7] Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you.
John 5:30 NLT
[30] I can do nothing on my own. I judge as God tells me. Therefore, my judgment is just, because I carry out the will of the one who sent me, not my own will.
Ephesians 2:8-9 KJV
[8] For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
[9] Not of works, lest any man should boast.
Genesis 1:29-30 NLT
[29] Then God said, “Look! I have given you every seed-bearing plant throughout the earth and all the fruit trees for your food.
[30] And I have given every green plant as food for all the wild animals, the birds in the sky, and the small animals that scurry along the ground-everything that has life.” And that is what happened.
2 Kings 5:13-14 NLT
[13] But his officers tried to reason with him and said, “Sir, if the prophet had told you to do something very difficult, wouldn’t you have done it? So you should certainly obey him when he says simply, ‘Go and wash and be cured!'”
[14] So Naaman went down to the Jordan River and dipped himself seven times, as the man of God had instructed him. And his skin became as healthy as the skin of a young child, and he was healed!
Numbers 20:7-12 NIV
[7] The Lord said to Moses,
[8] “Take the staff, and you and your brother Aaron gather the assembly together. Speak to that rock before their eyes and it will pour out its water. You will bring water out of the rock for the community so they and their livestock can drink.”
[9] So Moses took the staff from the Lord’s presence, just as he commanded him.
[10] He and Aaron gathered the assembly together in front of the rock and Moses said to them, “Listen, you rebels, must we bring you water out of this rock?”
[11] Then Moses raised his arm and struck the rock twice with his staff. Water gushed out, and the community and their livestock drank.
[12] But the Lord said to Moses and Aaron, “Because you did not trust in me enough to honor me as holy in the sight of the Israelites, you will not bring this community into the land I give them.”
Matthew 6:31-34 NLT
[31] “So don’t worry about these things, saying, ‘What will we eat? What will we drink? What will we wear?’
[32] These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers, but your heavenly Father already knows all your needs.
[33] Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.
[34] “So don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today.
